Success. Back to the day job.

The remainder of Blue Fusion was a total success. The scores were really impressive, I think that teams of IBMers would struggle to do much better. Thanks to everyone who helped out (comments from one helper on eightbar). It was really good to be involved, to meet and talk to the teachers, children and hosts, all of whom had interesting perspectives on the activities and talks.

One of the speakers brought along a few Vocera devices and we had a play with them after the talk. Very impressive technology and I look forward to seeing it built in to other systems.

Back to my desk tomorrow to deal with rumblings from the WS-Addressing WG and see what other work has appeared in the last week.

Vocera - They are great and getting better. I don’t think we will see the technology anywhere else anytime soon. They are very focused on making the software/hardware bullet proof.

There are several new features that will we hope to see offered in the next version 4.0; such as SIP, more extensible admin console and some additional interactive features like a group census via the badge.

A little background, I have been installing and working closely with Vocera for close to 2 years. We have been working to intergrate their solution with ours for little over a year and have had some good success.

If you need to know more about the solution let me know.

I like the sound of SIP support…. standards bring so many options.

The mind really boggles about how this kind of technology will change things. There’s an assumption (that I don’t share) about digital convergence to the mobile phone - but will we really need anything but a badge/headset with this kind of technology in the future?

I’m David Illsley, I work in Web Services development at IBM Hursley, which involves work on the Apache WS Project, where I am a committer and PMC member. When not working with technology, I spend a lot of time on the backstage aspects of theatre, and a sadly decreasing amount of time reading.
